Child Impact & Single Expert Report

A Child Impact Report — sometimes referred to as a Single Expert Report — is a specialist assessment used to assist the Court in making decisions that are in the best interests of the child.

These reports are typically prepared early in parenting proceedings by a Family Consultant. They offer preliminary insights into:

  • The child’s experiences and emotional wellbeing

  • Their developmental needs

  • Any risks or concerns affecting their safety

  • Key issues to be addressed by the Court

  • Appropriate interim parenting arrangements

Unlike Family Reports, Child Impact Reports do not include observations of interactions between the child/ren and each party — unless the child is non-verbal or otherwise unable to express their own thoughts and feelings effectively.

These reports help inform the Court and support child-focused decision-making during the early stages of family law matters.
